After eleven seasons, thirty one concerts and a tenth anniversary Gala Concert with Roderick Williams and WCC’s patron Iain Burnside, the concert series in now ending. Beginning from scratch in 2008 WCC has been able to promote many young professional artists at the beginning of their careers and has provided educational opportunities for students from Woodbridge schools. The audiences have grown over the years and WCC has developed a loyal audience base, so that concerts have been very well attended.  Whilst the ‘lion’s share’ of the work fell to me and my long suffering wife, I have been indebted to my friends as well as ushers from Aldeburgh Music for their unstinting support over the years.

Music in schools is now in crisis. The arts are always the first casualties in austerity and being able to bring classical music to primary age pupils and enabling  students from the town’s two secondary schools to perform in public concerts with the Royal College of Music Strings has been very rewarding.  WCC also facilitated a string quartet project tutored by the Sacconi Quartet, whereby musicians from both Farlingaye and Woodbridge Schools performed an early Haydn Quartet, sharing two movements each.

In eleven years of the series the concerts have also given a prominent place to English composers including   Lennox Berkeley, Butterworth, Elgar, Holst’, Purcell, Vaughan Williams,Warlock and Walton.

The photographs below reflect the range and quality of the artists who have appeared, many of whom have become established on the concert scene.
